Okay, you have finished your first book. Great! The hard part is over right? WRONG! Now comes the real fun. If you are lucky enough to find a publisher you still have to submit to a crapload of them in order to maybe get one to take you. Another road is an agent, that’s easy enough right?WRONG! You must submit query letters to them and maybe you get lucky enough for one to take you. Okay so you want to go the self publish route that’s easy right. Yes it is, but with some snags in the gears.
First you better get an editor, unless you have perfect grammar. (I don’t so it cost me $1k)
Okay now your book is self published and after the windfall of praise from your family and friends then what?
What happens next is up to you. YOU have to self promote your book also.
That’s right, you have to tell the world about your book and its a long hard road.
There are many ways to get your name out there but guess what? There are thousands of us self published authors trying to do the same thing. You will get lost in the mix so you have to find creative ways to stand out. Facebook, Twitter and any other social media is a good way to get your name out there. Another is to hire pr firms and ad agencies to help you but be ready to fork out some cash.
In conclusion what I am trying to say is that it takes a lot of time and energy to promote your book. Be ready to give a lot to get a little but with a little luck and probably a lot of cash you just might be on the best sellers list.
